Out Of The Shadows
Sheldon Kahan
(This album was my first release. The material tends to be a little more thought provoking and introspective than "City Lights" which focuses on personal relationships. Hope you like it!)

Heartbreaker Co-written with David Cohen, who played bass and acoustic guitar. The drummer was Jack Spence. It's an early Beatle style song.
Fable Of Fifty Also co-written by David Cohen and the same instrumentation as "Heart Breaker". It was originally about the Iranian hostage crisis but applies to all prisoners of war situations.
The Black Knight I recorded this playing all the instruments (midi guitar, bass pedals and drum machine) in one take, using my one man band set-up. For more on this see my "Boogie Man" page. The point of the song is that instead of demonizing people we need to look within ourselves. I guess the message is similar to the Stone's "Sympathy For The Devil". Mainly, I like the guitar part!
Ode To The Aged What a drag it is getting old! But misery loves company, and memories are sweet. And, of course, the only thing worse than getting old is not getting old!
My Two Cents The title says it all. Hey, it's my song so I can pontificate. Huh!
So Lovely To Wander Around Interesting chord structure. It's almost a children's song. I'd like to see it animated. "Whispering willows have something to say..." What an image! I wonder what they're whispering about!
Unicorn The spoken part near the end is an actual poem I wrote for someone. I even hand delivered it to her door! I wrote the poem on the back of a post card that depicted a boy feeding a unicorn a bough of leaves. I sat outside by candle light with a bottle of red wine and the rest is history. No, the relationship never happened but I got a great poem out of it! Move over Mr. Shakespeare! The rest of the song is pure Neil Diamond.
Love Is Sure To Come To Us All This song still chokes me up. I hope it's good for you, too.
I'm Alright & You're OK Well, I couldn't call it "I'm OK You're OK", could I? Same message though and it feels so good to say it over and over again.
Long Live The Land (Voted first runner up on Artist Weekly.com's "Best of the Best" week of 11-20-07) Yes, I was an environmentalist when environmentalism wasn't cool. The song asks tough questions. I hope we can find the answers before it's too late!
